FLORIDA IN THE NEWS
Appraisers
make their opinions known to the Florida Cabinet and
the ruling has been postponed.
As you may already know, the Property Appraiser in
Duval County and the Mayor of Jacksonville have been
arguing
over the Property Appraisers budget and his right to
purchase new software to replace his aging and unsupported
system. The argument is centered on two fundamental
issues: 1) does the Property Appraiser have the legal
authority to purchase a system, and, 2) does the property
appraiser need new software. These two issues are being
fought in two different venues.
Many Property Appraisers expressed their opinions regarding
the lower cabinets recommendation to remove the budget
items from the Duval County Property Appraiser’s
budget. Over twenty appraisers returned their opinion
forms and many others contacted the Governor or Cabinet
directly via phone or letter.
The cabinet has postponed their ruling to January
since The Honorable Ernie Mastroianni was not available
to attend the hearing on December 11th. Although no
mention was made regarding the opinions expressed by
various Property Appraisers, it certainly has made the
cabinet realize there is more at stake than Duval’s
internal political struggle. If you have not expressed
your opinion we encourage you to do so. Either contact
the Governor’s office directly or print and fax
to us the opinion
form. All opinions will be presented to the Cabinet
and posted on our web site. If you do not want your
opinion posted just send us an email to remove your
opinion from the site. (Remove
Opinion).
